A chance opportunity can change your life. For me, that chance was a job I took to make ends meet as a young professional still cutting my teeth. Little did I know that job would eventually lead me toward a successful career in technology.

From an early age, I dedicated my life to music. It was my passion — and I even earned a degree in musical performance. However, I was soon facing student loans and in need of a way to pay the bills, so I took a temporary job doing data entry. In that role, I often helped others with general computer troubleshooting. I had a natural propensity for it, but those whom I worked with sometimes struggled with technical tasks.

One may not think a temporary job is a life-changing opportunity. But for me, it was. It was through this work I discovered another passion: technology. I dedicated myself to the role and worked hard to invest in myself and improve those with whom I worked.

Today, I lead teams at one of the fastest-growing healthcare technology companies in the country. Together, we build tech-enabled solutions that help patients get the medication they need to live healthy lives. It’s a noble mission and one I’m privileged to help fulfill at CoverMyMeds.

It’s also why I’m excited to share that CoverMyMeds has been recognized as one of the 2021 Best Workplaces in Healthcare™.

The recognition is a testament to the culture built by our team of more than 1,500 leaders.

My career journey has taught me that there’s no single way to be successful. I encourage others to not limit themselves by only thinking about their career path as linear — instead, also think laterally. There’s an advantage to T-shaped experience and knowledge. Breadth brings a lot to the table.

During my time in the technology industry, I’ve witnessed transformation not only from an innovation standpoint, but also in terms of gender diversity. I’ve been the only woman in the room and have struggled to be taken seriously. Fortunately, things have changed for the better and today things are vastly different. There's greater parity in pay equity and female representation in the tech workforce. Sure, there’s still room for improvement, but we’ve come a long way as women in technology. I’m grateful every day to work alongside talented, vibrant and diverse teams.

I often tell those I mentor that diversity in background is a real advantage and it’s imperative to be inclusive. I mean that in all forms, including race, gender, orientation, age, culture, religion and ability.

I often tell those I mentor — including peers in our Women in Healthcare IT employee resource group — that diversity in background is a real advantage and it’s imperative to be inclusive. I mean that in all forms, including race, gender, orientation, age, culture, religion and ability.

I’m proud to say I work at CoverMyMeds and am honored by our recognition as one of the Best Workplaces in Healthcare™. It’s possible because of the individuals who make up our organization and embrace challenges, act selflessly and do the right thing to achieve remarkable results.
